We are happy to announce the good news that the 2nd Worldwide Meeting of Young Academies will take place in 2015, co-organized by the Global Young Academy (GYA) and the Young Academy of Sweden (YAS) and hosted by YAS at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences on 16-18 November 2015. This is a great chance for all of us to meet and exchange experience, discuss successful YA activities and think about future networking and cooperation. There might also be a possibility for brief regional outbreaks.
In addition, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) has offered to combine our meeting with a round table discussion on the role of science in sustainable development (probably on 17 November). Young scientists from the Young Academies would discuss the outcomes of the “UN Summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda” (25-27 September 2015, New York) and more particularly the role of science in sustainable development with high level representatives of the EU and possibly other international organizations. In this case, the JRC would fund parts of the travel and accommodation for some participants (details still to be settled).
Since the 1st Worldwide Meeting in Amsterdam in late 2012, the international movement of Young Academies has grown extensively with many new Young Academies established (see the map on the GYA website at: http://www.globalyoungacademy.net/NYA/national-young-academies-1. Like in the 1st Worldwide Meeting, Young Academies from developed countries (and others who can do so) should self-fund their travel and accommodations to allow YAs from developing countries to participate through available funds.
